Abstract
Observations of oscillations in red giants, particularly with the Kepler mission, have provided evidence for the presence and properties of magnetic fields in their interiors. I provide an introduction to the asteroseismic investigations of red giants and discuss the evidence that has been obtained on the magnetic effects, including recent direct detections of magnetic frequency shifts. This has the potential to inform our understanding of the generation and evolution of magnetic fields in main-sequence and evolved stars and their effects on stellar evolution.
