Some applications of thermodynamics to explore dark energy and inflation

David A. Tamayo Ramirez

Abstract
In this talk we are going to show how thermodynamics can give some clues about the nature of two of the most elusive entities in modern cosmology: dark energy and inflation. The equation of state is a key element of standard cosmology and can be used as a link between cosmology and thermodynamics (from which it originally comes from). First we start with the hypothesis that dark energy is properly a perfect fluid (a material substance), a simple analysis shows that the second law of thermodynamics puts restrictions in the equation of state, the study can be extended to a fluid with viscosity. In the second part, it is explored how the Bekenstein entropy, in the context of inflation, can give some outputs about the fine tune problem of the vacuum energy.
