Abstract
In this talk, I will highlight our efforts towards accelerating astronomy research in Uganda (especially in the Department of Physics – Kyambogo University). To this end, I will provide insights into the recent and ongoing research outputs of the “Seismic research group”. Our group focuses on using the information contained in stellar surface oscillations to explore their interior physics, and precise estimation of stellar parameters (such as mass, radius, and ages). Furthermore, I will highlight the outreach activities in our group, which involve using astronomy as a tool to motivate high school students to consider STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related careers.
