Abstract
Unveiling the nature of the Universe is a challenging problem in Cosmology. The difficulty in directly finding dark matter and dark energy and the known limitations of General Relativity lead to studies on alternative theories of gravity. I shall present a recent model which is an extension of the f(R) theories with a non-minimal coupling between matter and curvature. Two main issues shall be analysed: the cosmological Layzer-Irvine equation and the inflationary dynamics. New features of this model in these contexts shall be discussed.
