Abstract
The HARPS-N spectrograph is now operating with a new solar telescope feed since July 2015. I will present early results from the first 11 months of HARPS-N observations of the Sun as a star, with a particular focus on our investigations aimed at understanding radial-velocity variations induced by the Sun’s surface activity (sunspots, faculae/plage, granulation).
This solar dataset is also key to improving our wavelength calibration and data reduction techniques, and to designing more efficient observing strategies for the stars targeted by HARPS-N at nighttime.
