Abstract
In this talk I would like to convince the audience that dust, despite the fact of soil our houses, is a fundamental element to understand galaxies evolution. To show the truthfulness of this statement I will review recent results obtained with ground radio telescopes, and space observatories. One of the most important process in which dust is involved is star formation, where it plays the role of protagonist through the catalysis in the formation of molecular hydrogen and re-emission of Ultra Violet radiation produced by young stars. Dust not only dependes on internal processes, but it is also affected by the external processes that involve the galaxy in which inhabits, and I will show how this is possible and for which reasons. Finally I would give an overview about the future of dust, that will continue to surprise us, until someone of good will and patience will wipe the room.
