The K2 mission is finding very interesting planetary candidates that can be characterised with ground-based facilities. Several groups are participating independently to the follow-up efforts. While competition is a good source of motivation, duplication of the work is also a waste of time (both human and facility resources). With a better communication, coordination or even collaboration between the groups, it would be possible to improve the exploitation of the K2 data and the use of available resources. Organising the various K2 efforts will also be a good practice for the upcoming follow-up of the TESS and PLATO candidates.
For these reasons, we invite actors in the follow-up of K2 candidates to a small and informal meeting to be held in Porto (Portugal), in the Instituto de Astrofísica e Ciências do Espaço, Universidade do Porto, on 2016, May 10 and 11.
The first day will be dedicated to formal presentation of the various groups, tools and facilities involved in the K2 efforts and the second day will be an open discussion to find solutions to better organise ourselves, as an exoplanet community.
There is no registration fee, but the meeting is limited to 55 participants (first come, first serve). Coffee breaks and lunches will be provided to the participants during the 2 days of the workshop. For special diet, please contact us as soon as possible.
For any question or inquiry, please contact alexandre.santerne@astro.up.pt.
Deadline for registration and abstract submission: April 15.
