ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE OPENING OF AN INTERNATIONAL CALL TO HIRE ONE POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER UNDER ARTICLE 23 OF DECREE-LAW Nº 57/2016, ALTERED BY LAW Nº 57/2017

Ref: IA2018-22-CTTI

Centro de Investigação em Astronomia/Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP), by decision of the Board of Directors, opens an international call to hire a postdoctoral researcher, as part of the activities held at Instituto de Astrofísica e Ciências do Espaço (IA), in the area of Astronomy/Astrophysics - field of Extragalatic Astronomy, under an unfixed-term contract (contrato de trabalho a termo incerto).

The position is offered in the context of project SFRH/BPD/107919/2015, "Studying the coevolution of massive galaxies with nuclear black holes across cosmic time using optical observations of luminous active galaxies", integrated in the scientific objectives of the thematic line "The assembly history of galaxies resolved in space and time". The applicant should have demonstrated expertise and extensive experience in the analysis of long-slit and integral field spectroscopy data for Seyfert galaxies and quasars out to high redshifts, as well as in spatially resolved investigations of the physical properties of Lyman-alpha halos in these galaxies. Experience in the application of state-of-the-art photoionization codes, in particular under consideration of a kappa electron energy distribution, is strongly desired. Specifically, the applicant will use archival VLT/MUSE data to study the physical conditions in the Lyman-alpha halo of quasars and explore empirical and theoretical diagnostics for the spectroscopic classification of intermediate-redshift galaxies. The successful candidate is also expected to participate in studies with VLT@MOONS of the gas excitation, metallicity and dynamics of the ionized gas component of AGN.
