Ref: IA2015-15-BI

A Call for up-to 2 research fellowships (Bolsa de Investigação – Licenciado) in the field of galaxy formation and evolution is open at the Fundação da Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, F. P. (FFCUL), for the Instituto de Astrofísica e Ciências do Espaço (IA), in the context of the project “Towards very high-redshift radio galaxies in the reionisation epoch using ALMA”, PTDC/FIS-AST/2194/2012, financed by national funds by FCT / MEC (PIDDAC) under the Programme in All Scientific Domains under the following conditions:

  1. Scientific Area: Astronomy and Astrophysics
  2. Requirements for admission: Graduation in Astronomy, Physics, Mathematics, or other relevant domains.
  3. Factors preferred: Experience with astronomical data processing software and in programming languages (eg: IDL, Fortran).
  4. Work plan: The successful candidate will participate in the selection and study of distant radio galaxies research, potentially at the Epoch of Reionization. The selection will use data from some of the deepest and most recent radio and infrared surveys. The study of the selected galaxies at optical, infrared and millimetre data will be used, from observations with the Hubble, Spitzer and Herschel Space Telescopes, as well as from the APEX telescope.
  5. Legislation framework: A fellowship contract will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT “Regulations for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources”, in accordance with Law 40/2004, of 18 August, as amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August, and as amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October and by Law No. 12/2013, of January 29, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of 9 July.
