Abstract
One of humanity's oldest questions is “are we alone?”. To determine whether life on Earth is unique, it is crucial to explore our Universe. In the 1960s we placed the first humans on the Moon. As space exploration moved beyond technology, into living systems, came the need to understand how life adapted to space. Thus, the highly interdisciplinary field known as astrobiology was created. Astrobiology has grown hand-in-hand with robotic and human space exploration to understand the limits of life as we know it, and assess the potential habitability of other planetary bodies. But what does Astrobiology tackle exactly? And what are the challenges of addressing such immensely vast topic of Life in the Universe?
