Abstract
This talk will describe some recent developments around cosmic inflation, the current best explanation for the origin of the primordial density fluctuations that seeded the large scale structure in the universe. While single-field inflation is remarkably successful as an effective description, its proper embedding in particle physics is still pending, and its connection to quantum gravity poses new and unexpected challenges. Detecting the detailed imprints of this primordial "cosmological collider" in the sky is an exciting window into these ultra-high energy questions, and the target of upcoming observations.
