Abstract
The first observations of merging black holes by the LIGO and Virgo observatories are broadly characterised by a relatively simple "chirping" inspiral, smoothly transitioning into a merger and an exponentially damped ringdown. Future observations, at higher signal to noise ratios, will allow us to study increasing fine features hidden in these deceptively simple signals. In this talk I will discuss some of these future opportunities, with a particular focus on recoil "kicks".
