Abstract
In this talk I will discuss about the PLATO Input Catalog (PIC). I will present the motivations behind the construction of this catalog,  the information it is expected to contain and the results of the most recent efforts done to characterize PLATO targets. I will in particular focus on the close connection between PLATO and Gaia presenting some highlights from Gaia Data Release 2 of particular interest for PLATO.
