Abstract
In this talk starting from the basis of interferometry, I will describe one of the most challenging project afforded by the European Union through the ESO: ALMA. Last week has been released the call for Cycle 6 and, as happened since Cycle 0, new capabilities and new setups have been proposed to the scientific community. Portuguese scientists have the possibility of a valuable support from the Portuguese Alma Center of Expertise (PACE), which will support and encourage scientists to take advantage of this facility for the first time. I will show important results obtained in different scientific fields with ALMA, and an update of an interesting work at present going on at the Lisbon node of the IA. I will finish giving hints about the future of ALMA, PACE, and the new facilities that will increase even more the importance of the radio window in the future of Astrophysics.
