Abstract
Planck is the third-generation space mission to measure the anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Its unprecedented combination of sensitivity, angular resolution, and frequency coverage will extract essentially all the information in the temperature anisotropies of the CMB, and represent a major step in measuring the polarization properties. In addition, Planck's measurements of the entire sky at frequencies from 30 to 857 GHz will be important for a large range of galactic and extragalctic astrophysics.
