Abstract
The IMF is key while studying stellar populations since the properties and evolution of stars are closely related their mass. Main quantities used on Extragalactic Astrophysics, such as colors, luminosity and stellar lifetimes, all depend on the IMF. Observations point for a universal IMF while other studies show significant evidence for a non-universal IMF. In this talk, I will present several IMF shapes that have been proposed in the literature and show the evidence supporting either an universal IMF or a time- and environment-dependent IMF.
