A closer look at non-main stream theories.

Abstract
I will discuss some of the most famous theories, some born within others outside the scientific community, that radically challenge a dominant scientific paradigm. The discussion will start with astronomical non-main stream theories, such as Arp's models which claim that QSOs are ejected by galaxies along the rotation axis, and examples of non-standard cosmologies, but will go beyond the boundaries of astrophysics. We will try to define a boundary between noble dissent, which is at the basis of science, and gratuitous pain in the neck.
