Abstract
Cosmic strings are of particular interest among topological defects because they can play several of useful roles in cosmology. Although the behaviour of the simplest networks is well understood, it is also known that they do not provide a realistic model of the networks formed in higher-dimensional theories. For these cases, one needs models with additional degrees of freedom. In this work we develop an analytic model for string evolution with a conserved charge. We study both the evolution of exact loop solutions and that of the network as a whole. Finally we discuss the relevance and possible cosmological consequences of such a model.
