Episodes of (Space) Science in Armenia: A Journey Through Millennia

Vardan Zh. Adibekyan
IA

Abstract
Records of (space) science date back to ancient times across the world, and Armenia holds its own fascinating contributions. In this talk, I will take a selective and incomplete journey through episodes of (space) science in Armenia, shaped by my own limited knowledge. I will begin with archaeoastronomy, exploring early astronomical knowledge reflected in rock art, ancient calendars, observatories, and records of celestial events. Moving to the medieval period, I will highlight the 7th-century works of Ananias of Sirak in mathematics, astronomy, and geography. Finally, I will turn to the 20th century, focusing on key contributions from Byurakan Observatory to modern astrophysics. This talk will showcase Armenia's enduring engagement with (space) science across millennia.
