Abstract
Portuguese Language Office of Astronomy for Development (PLOAD) promotes the use of astronomy as a tool for development in Portuguese-speaking countries and communities, supporting the strategic plan of the International Astronomical Union (IAU). PLOAD aims to promote scientific literacy through accessible resources for all Portuguese-speaking countries and to contribute to their active participation in the field of Astronomy and Space Sciences. This is achieved by providing access to cutting-edge resources, establishing partnerships with the educational community, and highlighting the cultural importance of sky observation in the language and history of these countries. The diversity within the PLOAD network presents unique challenges and opportunities for scientific, technological, and educational development. Moreover, being represented on four continents, PLOAD faces additional geographical challenges. To overcome these challenges, digital communication is being a central tool in our actions, allowing PLOAD to achieve greater community engagement in the activities, bridging the gap between science and society. This poster focuses on the non-formal education activities virtually and promoted in three Special Days related with PLOAD’s mission: World Science Day for Peace and Development (November 10), International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11), and World Portuguese Language Day (May 5). During these celebrations, a joint program with a global online component and a local face-to-face one was organized, which will be presented. These diverse activities allowed participants, mainly young people, to share the Portuguese language and science curiosity through meaningful interactions.
