Abstract
Astrophysics based tests of fundamental cosmology, such as those of the stability of the fine-structure constant and
measurements of the redshift drift, require not only high-resolution spectrographs but also accurate wavelength calibration
(e.g., using a Laser Frequency Comb) and a detailed modelling of the corresponding data. In this talk I will explain the full
sequence of the necessary steps, as they are being applied to a set of ESPRESSO GTO spectra of the superbright quasar
J2125-1719, an i~16.5 magnitude quasar at redshift z~3.9. This is one of the seven quasars in the recently proposed Golden
Sample for the redshift drift measurement for the ANDES spectrograph at ESO's Extremely Large Telescope, and such a
detailed modelling is essential in preparation for this future experiment.
